A major contributor to the global CME/CPD community and the European CME Forum, Ronald Murray, Ed.D., CHCP, FACEHP, was a member of the Alliance community for 27 years. In fond memory of Ron, whom we lost too soon, the Professionals with Educational Expertise, Resources, and Services (PEERS), a member section of the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEhp), has created a reference list of articles indexed on PubMed that relate to how CME/CPD is developed, delivered, accredited and financed outside the United States.
This scholarly service project was formerly called the PEERS Global CME/CPD Reference List. After Ron’s death in an automobile accident in February 2024, it was renamed in honor of the PEERS member and Scotland native who earned a doctorate in education and spent 17 years working in the Office of Continuing Medical Education at the University of Virginia. Ron was named a distinguished fellow of the Alliance in 2013.
The goal of The Murray List is to support the efforts of all Alliance members who wish to expand their horizons beyond the borders of the United States. List entries are limited to references to journal articles written in English, found on PubMed and published in 2010 or later. Articles are listed in reverse chronological order, then by the lead author’s last name. Articles of special interest, as determined by the editors (names shown in the byline above), are marked with an asterisk (*).
The list is updated quarterly, and the latest edition may always be found by clicking on the Resources tab of the PEERS member section. For Alliance members who don’t have time to read all the latest journal articles, here are a few key takeaways:
- CME/CPD systems vary widely across the globe, reflecting differences in healthcare infrastructure, resources, and cultural contexts.
- While high-income countries often lead in program implementation, there is a growing recognition of the need to support developing nations in designing robust instructional content and effective delivery formats.
- Global collaboration and knowledge sharing are crucial for identifying best practices, developing innovative educational formats, and ensuring that CME/CPD programs meet the needs of a diverse and evolving healthcare workforce.
