Kristina Moran is the education coordinator for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)-approved continuing nursing professional development provider unit of a national healthcare association management, marketing, communications and publishing firm. The firm provides a broad spectrum of services to associations within the healthcare industry. She recently received her Healthcare CPD Associate Certificate. Here, Kristina shares her motivation and experience with us.
How long have you worked in CME/CPD?
I have worked in continuing professional development for 12 years.
What motivated you to pursue the CPD Associate certificate?
My direct supervisor — who is a master’s-prepared, nursing professional development board-certified registered nurse, lead nurse planner and director of education services within our ANCC-approved continuing nursing professional development provider unit — ardently advocated and arranged for me to pursue the CPD Associate certificate because she felt it validated my role and the work I do.
As a CPD professional, what is the most important benefit being a CPD Associate?
Being recognized as a CPD Associate gives greater validation to the knowledge and experience I possess and more concretely defines the contribution it provides to my department; the healthcare association management, marketing, communications and publishing organization for which I work; and the healthcare associations which our organization serves.
What value does your CPD Associate designation bring to your organization?
Our organization provides a range of services, from nursing CPD activities to healthcare associations. My CPD Associate designation verifies the importance of my contribution to our provider unit and the overall work of our organization, and it affirms our organization’s commitment to continuing professional development in a broad sense as well as in the healthcare arena at all levels.
How did you prepare for the exam?
The exam covers areas of knowledge that are directly connected to my day-to-day responsibilities, so a large amount of general preparation could be said to come from my routine work. I also completed the eight-module Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Professional Development Associate: Role, Competencies and Standards Course as a review for the specific areas covered on the exam. Also, I reviewed the practice exam from the Alliance website.
What would you say to someone considering pursuing the CPD Associate certificate?
The CPD Associate certificate offers industry-defined endorsement of the knowledge and experience that those working in continuing professional development possess and serves as a clear marker of the scope and value of their role in the larger context of the healthcare arena.
