Innovative methods of continuing medical education (CME), such as microlearning and digital platforms, may help to meet the needs of today's healthcare professionals. In this study, researchers evaluated the efficacy of innovative CME methods as well as potential barriers to their use. The study included quantitative surveys of 300 healthcare professionals and qualitative interviews with 50 CME administrators. More than three-quarters (78%) of the healthcare professionals said they used microlearning on a regular basis - and 68% said it was their preferred learning method, citing its flexibility and efficiency. Just-in-Time Training (JITT) was also popular, especially in critical care settings. About 45% of respondents said they used it and 70% said they were very satisfied with this learning approach. Some 92% of participants also said they used digital platforms, with many respondents reporting satisfaction with their content diversity and ease of access. Among the major obstacles reported were literacy challenges (52%) and technological access limitations (48%). The authors note that addressing these barriers "is essential to ensure widespread adoption and maximize their impact on healthcare outcomes."
