Sustainable continuing medical education (CME) that is focused on quality improvement (QI) requires partnerships between CME developers and sponsoring organizations, researchers report. Their scoping review of the current landscape of eLearning interventions in QI-focused CME included 21 relevant studies. Twelve of the studies used blended instruction, rather than eLearning interventions only. Key findings from the review highlighted the importance of coaching from QI experts and institutional support for eLearning interventions in both the planning and implementation stages. Obstacles to participation were a lack of protected time and resources for participants; small practices were most affected. Based on the results, the researchers conclude: "Remote coaching can be an effective strategy to provide ongoing support to geographically separated learners."
