AMA, ASN, CDC Launch Continuing Medical Education Modules to Help Improve Infection Control in Dialysis Settings

South Florida Hospital News (02/07/23)

The American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the launch of continuing medical education modules to improve infection control in outpatient dialysis settings. The interactive video modules are incorporated within the AMA and ASN's work with CDC's Project Firstline national infection control training partnership. They highlight four primary infection control measures: hand hygiene, injection safety, personal protective equipment, and environmental cleaning and disinfection. The modules are designed to help healthcare professionals understand the value of each measure, identify common errors to avoid, and know effective infection control actions. "We believe these modules and ongoing work with the national training collaborative will help prevent the spread of avoidable infections and improve health outcomes for our patients," said AMA President Jack Resneck, MD.
