Agreement with European Board for Accreditation of Continuing Education for Health Professionals (EBAC)

By: AMA News Release

The American Medical Association (AMA) and the European Board for Accreditation of Continuing Education for Health Professionals (EBAC) have renewed a continuing medical education (CME) agreement through Sept. 30, 2023. The agreement allows select activities approved for EBAC continuing education (CE) credits/points to be converted to the hours of participation for Physician Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 Credit. EBAC-certified and EBAC-accredited CME provider-certified activities are covered by the agreement. Live educational activities with a concurrent audience presence and Web-based recorded educational programs accessible on-demand and articles/texts are the only course categories certified for EBAC CE credits/points that qualify for conversion. Individuals accorded a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or an equivalent international degree can convert EBAC hours of participation to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Non-physician professionals are eligible for a certificate of participation available within the transcript section of their AMA Ed Hub profile. All disseminated promotional materials and all certificates given to participating physicians must contain an AMA credit designation statement.
