French President Emmanuel Macron and World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recently broke ground on the new WHO Academy campus in Lyon, France. "The ambitions of the WHO Academy are not modest: to transform lifelong learning in health globally," said Tedros. "The COVID-19 pandemic is a powerful demonstration of the value of health workers and why they need the most up-to-date information, competencies and tools to keep their communities healthy and safe." The campus, slated to open in 2024, will supply millions of people worldwide with rapid access to the highest-quality lifelong learning about health. More than 100 major learning programs will be available by 2023. Learners will also have access to the WHO's full range of e-learning programs on a variety of digital learning platforms and access to high-quality courses developed by others, as well. The Academy's multilingual, multimodal personalized learning programs will implement the latest evidence-based health guidance, cutting-edge learning technologies and advancements in adult learning sciences. Most users will access the programs online through desktop and mobile devices and in low-bandwidth settings. "The quality of the health workforce is the key to resilience during a health crisis," Macron said. "Investing in health systems is the best way to prepare for future pandemics."
