ACCME News Release (04/14/26) Richetti, Dion
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) is warning that artificial intelligence (AI) tools used in accredited continuing education can introduce inaccurate, biased or non-evidence-based information if they are poorly designed or insufficiently tested. ACCME reminded accredited providers that they remain fully responsible for all learner-facing content, including anything generated by AI. Providers must ensure strict separation from promotion, validate AI outputs before deployment, establish clear guardrails and clinical oversight, disclose AI use and limitations to learners, and continuously monitor and re-validate AI-generated content. They must also maintain control and transparency in vendor relationships. Failure to meet these expectations can place accreditation at risk, including possible immediate suspension.
