Navigating Interprofessional Education: A Qualitative Process Evaluation Examining Leadership Perspectives in Online IPE Curriculum Design and Implementation

By: Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions

Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (08/28/26) Agbeyaka, Senyo; Harper, Sara A.; Simonsmeier, Vicki; et al.

A qualitative study examining the implementation of a synchronous, university-based interprofessional education (IPE) curriculum explored the experiences of seven leaders and facilitators involved in planning and delivery of an online real-time university-based IPE curriculum. Participants identified nine factors that either supported or challenged successful implementation: a shared commitment to IPE, emphasis on interprofessional collaboration competencies, participant engagement, stakeholder buy-in, experiential learning opportunities, balancing faculty involvement and expectations, tailoring content to learners with varying experience levels, maintaining staff continuity, and securing dedicated leadership and resources. The findings highlight both the opportunities and practical challenges of developing sustainable IPE programs and provide guidance for institutions seeking to establish, evaluate, or strengthen interprofessional training initiatives, particularly among professional groups that have been underrepresented in previous IPE research.
