A critical literature review aimed to identify core elements related to interprofessional healthcare team conflict and resolution. The reviewers investigated current models and philosophies to generalize conflict conceptualization, its emphasis on interpersonal and workplace issues and team conflict application and education in resolving conflicts. In addition, they summarized the review's role in interprofessional team conflict resolution. There are three forms of team conflict, according to the review: relationship, task and process. "When team building occurs that incorporates training in the use of an adapted constructive controversy approach, there is a greater opportunity to enhance the quality of a cooperative approach to patients' care planning," the researchers report. "Training in team conflict resolution is needed as a key ingredient to ensure all team members can enhance the effectiveness and quality of interprofessional client-centered collaborative practice." The team's health providers as well as their clients/patients stand to benefit.
