Their method includes several key strategies, including aligning departmental reporting to promote collaboration, forming interdisciplinary teams of educators, integrating quality-related concerns into continuing education (CE) programs, coordinating CE with the implementation of decision-support tools, and using evidence-based educational practices. Aspects of Kaiser Permanente's model that can be adapted by other systems include consistently using interprofessional teams, understanding the specific organizational context, developing a theory of change to bridge education and quality gaps, coordinating quality interventions with CE, and using both educational and clinical data to assess the effectiveness of the efforts. This "model provides one example of coordination between CPD and QI experts to achieve their shared goal of improving clinician practice, patient care, and system performance," researchers report.
