A short educational program about breastfeeding helped to increase clinicians' knowledge and confidence, according to recent research. The educational program was 25 minutes long and was bracketed by pre- and post-assessments of 26 pediatric primary care clinicians who participated. The results indicate that breastfeeding knowledge increased significantly after taking the program. A breastfeeding triage tool was also identified as a helpful feature of an educational program. Intent to implement breastfeeding support did not change significantly from before the program to after; however, the researchers suggest that could be due to high levels of intention at the outset. Further research, they suggest, should examine obstacles to improving clinicians' intention to offer breastfeeding support and different ways to overcome these challenges.
