For Healthcare Professionals, New Options in Nutrition Continuing Education

Increased interest in diet as a preventative healthcare measure will increase demand for dietitians and nutritionists in the coming decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. People who provide nutritional guidance are subject to license and certification requirements in most U.S. states; however, some have found it difficult to obtain affordable and relevant classes to help further their careers. To help professionals meet their licensure and certification requirements, the Tufts University Nutrition Micro-Credentials Portfolio provides low-cost workshops and short courses for dietitians, nutritionists, medical personnel, public health experts, physical fitness experts and others in related fields. There are nine online workshops in three content areas: Assessing Nutrition Information, Food Sustainability, and Nutrition in Industry. The self-paced workshops — which include recorded lectures, case studies, readings, quizzes, and written assignments — align with the continuing medical education requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Diuretics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
