Future doctors and nurses in Michigan are training together on medical emergencies in a joint pilot health simulation. Students from Central Michigan University (CMU) College of Medicine and Saginaw Valley State University's Nursing Program are now collaborating in the CMU College of Medicine Simulation Lab to help them learn together to help people having emergencies. "A lot of medical education keeps us each separate, in our disciplines, nurses are educated with nurses, physicians are educated with physicians," says Laura Whiteside, a nurse practitioner and educator with the Central Michigan Education Partners. "But we in the professional realm, work together all the time. Giving them an opportunity to learn about each other's similarities, differences and ultimately what each discipline needs to give the best patient care possible."
