A pilot project at Southern California Permanente Medical Group tested a redesigned, interdisciplinary approach to continuing medical education (CME) planning that involved key stakeholders from the outset of the process. Researchers surveyed 18 faculty members and planners who had experience with both the traditional and collaborative planning models between January 2022 and March 2025. While participants reported strong overall support under both approaches, the collaborative model was associated with more consistently positive views of communication, coordination, and access to resources. Results regarding preparedness, efficiency, and educational value were mixed, leading the authors to conclude that early interdisciplinary collaboration may improve coordination in CME planning, although larger studies are needed to better assess its effects on efficiency and educational outcomes.
