APhA News Release (12/21/23)
A new partnership between the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the American Society for Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) aims to establish a professional development program for recertification of Board-Certified Geriatric Pharmacists (BCGP) by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties. The partnership will feature a multifaceted educational approach with live and on-demand webinars, podcasts and e-learning courses. "APhA is excited to partner with ASCP to provide education for those seeking to obtain or maintain their BCGP certification," said Daniel Zlott, PharmD, BCOP, senior vice president, education and business development at APhA. "The geriatric population benefits immensely from the care that pharmacists provide, and the educational offerings from APhA and ASCP will help ensure that pharmacists have the very latest knowledge and information they need to care for this important population. We couldn't ask for a better partner than ASCP as we look to ensure that all pharmacists have access to this essential training." Chad Worz, PharmD, BCGP, executive director and CEO of ASCP, added: "The older adult population will swell by 19 million people in the next 5 years and pharmacists will be at the center of managing their medications. This partnership puts the top of license education ASCP has delivered for years in the hands of more pharmacists in the community."
