Our Commitment to an Inclusive and Thriving Community – July 2026 Alliance President's Message

By: Vince Loffredo, EdD

One of the greatest strengths of the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions is our members. We are a community of professionals with different experiences, perspectives, practice settings, career stages and backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to improving patient care and advancing healthcare education.

That strength does not happen by accident. It is cultivated through intentional effort, thoughtful leadership and a commitment to ensuring that every member of our community has the opportunity to contribute, grow and succeed. Which is why I want to highlight, recognize and reaffirm the importance of the work being led by our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee.

The Alliance's commitment is clear. Our Board-approved DEI policy states that diversity, equity and inclusion are essential principles that enhance our ability to provide high-quality education and support the advancement and well-being of our continuing professional development (CPD) colleagues. This commitment extends across culture, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, professional role, practice setting and lived experience. It reflects who we are and who we aspire to be as an organization.

Our goal is to foster collaboration, build understanding and create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

The work of the DEI committee is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: when more voices are represented, when barriers are reduced, and when opportunities are expanded, our profession becomes stronger. Our educational activities improve. Innovation increases. New leaders emerge. And our members feel seen, heard, valued and supported.

Over the years, the committee has advocated for the establishment of resources, educational tools and practical guidance that Alliance members and their respective organizations can use to create more inclusive educational environments. Through the Alliance website, members have access to a growing collection of resources on cultural competency, health equity, implicit bias, inclusive educational design, equitable speaker representation, leadership development and organizational best practices. These resources are not theoretical exercises; they are practical tools that help improve the quality and reach of continuing education.

The DEI committee's work has also reinforced several priorities that are vital to the future of our profession:

  • Amplifying voices and experiences that have historically been underrepresented.
  • Encouraging diverse representation among speakers, volunteers, committee members and leaders.
  • Supporting education and professional development across all career stages.
  • Examining barriers that may unnecessarily limit participation and advancement.
  • Creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue, mentorship and professional growth.

These priorities matter not only for individuals but for the future of the healthcare CPD community itself.

As we look ahead, I believe there is a particular opportunity to continue elevating and supporting professionals from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds, including members of the BIPOC community. Healthcare education is stronger when the perspectives of all communities are reflected in planning, leadership, faculty development and educational design. The Alliance is at its best when every talented professional who wants to contribute can see a pathway to participation, leadership, and success. Creating those pathways is not about checking boxes. It is about ensuring that talent, expertise and potential can flourish wherever they exist.

It is also important to recognize that this work belongs to all of us. Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are not the responsibility of a single committee. They are organizational values that influence how we welcome new members, develop future leaders, build educational programs, recruit volunteers and engage with our profession. The DEI committee provides guidance, resources and leadership, but lasting progress comes from the collective efforts of our entire membership.

I want to personally thank the volunteers who have dedicated their time, energy and expertise to advancing this important work. Their contributions have strengthened the Alliance and created lasting value for our members and the organizations we serve.

As President, I want our members to know that the Alliance remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a professional community where all individuals are respected, valued and empowered to contribute. We will continue supporting efforts that promote equitable opportunities, elevate diverse perspectives, encourage belonging and strengthen our profession.

Our mission remains unchanged.

Our commitment remains strong.

And our future is brighter when every member has the opportunity to bring their full talents, experiences and perspectives to the work we do together.

Thank you for helping build a stronger, more inclusive Alliance.
