The Advanced Leadership Certification in Infection Prevention (AL-CIP) demonstrates expertise in infection prevention, change management, advocacy, and professional development. The portfolio-based assessment, from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), demonstrates real-world leadership and measurable impact on infection prevention and control. The certification would be useful for Certified Infection Control and Long-Term Care Certified Infection Preventionist holders, helping to increase their credibility and influence and aligning with the highest infection prevention and control standards. Anees S. Alhenn, MPH, RN, CIC, AL-CIP, explains that "obtaining the AL-CIP certification has significantly impacted my career growth and leadership opportunities," adding that it has allowed them "to gain a deeper understanding of the advanced practices in infection prevention, which I can apply to improve patient safety and outcomes across healthcare settings." For individuals who want to apply for the AL-CIP, Alhenn recommends that they attend the orientation seminars and make sure to demonstrate their understanding of the required competencies. "The key to proving your competence is not just presenting evidence, but by writing a clear and well-reasoned rational statement that explains the evidence you provide," Alhenn notes.
