Key Strategies for Sustaining an Interprofessional Continuing Education Program

Researchers examined a large academic medical center's 4-year experience sustaining and expanding interprofessional continuing education following the adoption of Joint Accreditation. Through systematic program reviews and analysis of activity data, the center demonstrated that interprofessional education can be effectively maintained when it is embedded into organizational culture, prioritized by leadership, and supported by adaptive planning processes and technology. The report highlights practical strategies — such as maintaining visibility among stakeholders, refining education design, and leveraging digital tools — that contributed to the program's success. These efforts may help other institutions seeking to implement and sustain interprofessional continuing education to strengthen teamwork and improve care delivery.
