European Healthcare Professionals' Readiness, Benefits and Ethical Concerns Regarding Generative AI in Continuing Education

European healthcare professionals express cautious optimism toward generative artificial intelligence (AI), according to new research. Although most have limited hands-on experience, they recognize clear educational benefits, particularly for creating teaching materials and supporting learners, while simultaneously voicing concerns about accuracy, privacy, and diminished human interaction. In a survey of 47 clinicians and academics across Europe, familiarity with GenAI emerged as the strongest predictor of readiness to adopt these tools, with demographic factors playing only a modest role. Five distinct user profiles surfaced, reflecting varying degrees of educational and clinical orientation. Overall, the findings highlight both enthusiasm and hesitation, underscoring the need for structured training, institutional guidance, and strong ethical safeguards to ensure responsible integration of GenAI into health care education.
