To advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, accredited pharmacy continuing education providers (CEPs) say they most frequently engage pharmacists and/or pharmacy technicians in discussions about DEI, according to new research. The study used surveys sent to CEPs from 2021-2023 to evaluate current efforts and best practices for incorporating DEI into educational programming and organizational culture. Using qualitative analysis, the researchers identified the following themes and categories: best practices, with CE programming for DEI strategies and organizational DEI strategies; DEI goals, including a mission statement and DEI strategic plan, developing CE, continuing pharmacy education committee and task force, and faculty development and guidance; and accrediting body support, including sharing best practices and training and technical support. In addition to these efforts and best practices, the researchers note, "organizations involved in CE accreditation can continue to explore ways to support DEI initiatives."
