Researchers describe the impact of the Kentucky Opioid Overdose Prevention and Education Network (KY-OPEN), a virtual interprofessional education series developed through the HEALing Communities Study to address gaps in training for clinicians and nonclinicians involved in opioid use disorder (OUD) care. The program was designed to improve OUD treatment knowledge and collaboration across roles. From January 2021 to June 2022, the 68-session curriculum attracted an average of 23 attendees per live session and more than 1,700 recorded session views. Follow-up surveys of participants at 6 and 16 months post-launch showed strong engagement, high satisfaction, and increased confidence in addressing stigma, making referrals, and educating others about OUD. Overall, the initiative demonstrates that virtual, interprofessional education can effectively enhance skills and knowledge among those providing addiction treatment.
