Continuing Medical Education in the Post COVID-19 Pandemic Era

The COVID-19 pandemic led to many changes in how continuing medical education (CME), a requirement for medical professionals to stay up to date in their fields, is provided and obtained. Here, researchers present an updated approach to creating and administering CME in the post-pandemic era. According to the authors, institutions and their CME programs need to understand their audience and educational goals but also "appreciate and use the novel formats and delivery platforms." They recommend strategies for CME development — such as competitive assessment, marketing, budgeting, program development and speaker selection — and discuss traditional and hybrid CME formats. These strategies, they suggest, can be used "as a solid framework for producing CME."
