With rising rates of dementia worldwide, an independent pharmacy in Springfield, Mass., is prioritizing memory-loss care education. Recently, four pharmacists from Louis & Clark Pharmacy received certification from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, aiming to improve outcomes and quality of life for people with dementia. The pharmacy provides prescription solutions to individuals, assisted living, independent living, and memory care communities, among others. The certification, which must be renewed every 2 years, includes in-person training and instruction, emphasizing person-centered care approaches that help patients to live in the moment and experience joy. "We strive to give our customers who are caregivers the most up-to-date information they need to make a positive difference," said Kara James, president of Louis & Clark Pharmacy. "The more we understand the needs of people with dementia, the better we can anticipate and respond to behavioral changes effectively.
