Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (12/09/25)
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education's (ACCME) new Guidance on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Accredited Continuing Education (CE) aims to support accredited providers as they integrate AI tools into all phases of education. The guidance outlines how AI can improve the design and efficiency of education, while protecting content integrity, learner trust, and patient confidentiality. Among other factors, the guidance addresses safeguarding independence and mitigating bias; transparency with regard to AI use; ensuring human oversight, accuracy, and accountability; protecting learner identity and sensitive information; indications for which AI should not be used; security; and the need for internal governance and continuous improvement practices. "As this field evolves, so will guidance from the accrediting bodies, as responsible AI integration into CE requires flexibility, transparency, integrity, and accountability, all of which remain core to the values of accredited continuing education," ACCME noted.
