10 Benefits to Continuing Education

While some may see mandatory continuing education (CE) as just another item to check off, quality CE has numerous personal and professional benefits. These include stronger professional and social networks, greater adaptability in the face of change and increased relevance or competitiveness. CE also brings about a sense of community, which is especially important for practitioners who work alone. Sharing experiences and creating a sense of belonging can help reduce stress and also build and grow professional relationships. Other benefits of CE include information management, especially given the vast amounts of new data created online every day; critical thinking and problem solving skills; and increased confidence as the knowledge baseline is raised. Additionally, CE provides opportunities for greater reflection, or personal insight, as the learner gains new perspectives and information that can lead to further discovery and self-improvement.
