The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education's (ACCME) 2020-2021 Highlights Report underscores key initiatives undertaken in response to the CME community's recommendations. The Learning to Thrive Together report details ACCME and the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education's new accommodations and resources to help the accredited education community adapt to the pandemic. "We provided an expedited pathway for planning activities related to COVID-19, a searchable database for vaccine-related education and guidance for transitioning to virtual learning formats," the council said. ACCME also issued the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education to fulfill their pledge that healthcare professionals" can trust accredited continuing education to provide accurate, balanced, evidence-based information that supports high-quality patient care." An upgraded version of the Program and Activity Reporting System allows providers to input, track and manage learner data for all accredited activities, while the accompanying free CME Passport app lets them find, track, and manage their CME. ACCME's board of directors also convened a special task force to investigate facilitating meaningful change and advancing diversity, health equity and inclusiveness within accredited education. Their findings are slated for release next year. "Together, we are building our community of practice, nurturing collaboration, promoting growth and demonstrating how accredited education makes a meaningful difference in the lives of clinicians and patients," the council concluded.
