The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has extended deadlines for all Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements to Dec. 31, 2022, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic's disruption. This means any diplomates who cannot complete MOC requirements this year will not lose certification, and ABIM will continue offering all exams this year as scheduled. Next January, the board will launch a new longitudinal knowledge assessment, providing a more flexible and convenient MOC option. Clinicians who elect to delay their 2021 assessment can enroll in the assessment upon launch, or can opt for the traditional, 10-year MOC exam. The ABIM/American College of Cardiology Collaborative Maintenance Pathway also will remain an option in certain cardiology fields.
