Impact of Educational Format on Learner Commitment to Change and Satisfaction

Recent research evaluated nine educational formats produced by the American Academy of Family Physicians continuing medical education (CME) program between 2015 and 2017. Postactivity learner assessments gauged learners' satisfaction and "commitment to change" in their practice. Interactive education utilizing social learning theory resulted in the greatest commitment to change, with more passive education formats leading to lower scores. Satisfaction scores did not vary substantially between the various formats. "Our data demonstrate differences between commitment to change and educational format that could inform how format types might be better used to promote a behavior change," the authors conclude.
