ABMS Member Boards Discuss Innovations in Assessment

Representatives of three American Board of Medical Specialties Member Boards discuss in a video innovations in evaluation that their boards have implemented. Kevin Graves, MBA, Strategic Project Manager for the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), cited positive feedback on ABFM's Family Medicine Certification Longitudinal Assessment exam pilot program, with over 90% of participating physicians appreciating the changes in progress and the platform and the program overall. The American Board of Pediatrics' Linda A. Althouse, PhD, also noted the board's Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA)-PEDs 2018 pilot involves an online learning assessment platform accessed via mobile device or a computer, delivering continuous evaluation rather than point-in-time assessment. Finally, American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Director Robert Gaiser, MD, said ABA co-developed questions for the MOCA Minute platform with the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia. He said diplomates cited the platform's relevance to their practice, and they "benefit by receiving up-to-date knowledge."
