'Devastating Impact': Imaging Groups Implore American Board of Radiology to Target Testing Alternatives

A coalition of major imaging groups are imploring the American Board of Radiology (ABR) to support alternative means of delivering its tests this year instead of postponing them until 2021, warning of a "devastating impact" on radiologists' careers otherwise. The Multispecialty Early Radiologic Career Coalition (MERCC) has requested the ABR to either administer tests virtually or at local or regional testing centers across the nation. Members of the coalition said the delay would have a disproportionate effect on small and rural residencies and on women, damaging the field's ability to improve workforce diversity and inclusivity. MERCC also said it wants the board to “engage trainees and early career physicians in open dialogue to come to a collaborative solution” for delivering exams by this fall.
