CME for MOC Updates

ACCME Newsletter (05/28/20) Vol. 12, No. 5

There have been several recent updates related to continuing medical education (CME) for maintenance of certification (MOC). These include changes to the American Board of Pathology's (ABPath) practice areas when providers register activities for ABPath Continuing Certification. The changes eliminate General Pathology/Basic Science and Flow Cytometry practice areas and rename Informatics as Clinical Informatics, with further information available here. Also out is a new Unified CME for MOC Program Guide to replace individual guides for each certifying board. The guide lists common requirements across all boards collaborating with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) in a central section and sections for board-specific mandates. Additionally, ACCME's Responding to COVID-19: CME for MOC guidance offers tips and resources for providers to register their COVID-19 activities for MOC, including shifting live activities to virtual formats and offering online assessments.
