Update: Proposed Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited CE

ACCME Highlights (03/31/20)

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education's (ACCME) board of directors has reached agreement about revisions to proposed Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, in response to feedback from the regulatory community. The board has elected to postpone the adoption and implementation of the revised standards while discussions about harmonizing their disclosure expectations with those of community stakeholders proceed. The board expects the discussions to conclude in the autumn, with a finalized version of the standards published before year's end. Following the standards' adoption, ACCME will issue a transition plan for the accredited continuing education community, outlining a transition phase to give stakeholders time to prepare to meet the expectations of the revised standards. Education and resources to support the continuing education community's successful adoption of the standards also will be included.
