Closing the Gap: Experienced Simulation Educators' Role and Impact on Everyday Healthcare

Researchers report that trained simulation educators (SEs) successfully translate their roles within clinical practice of everyday healthcare, and can be summed up by the core themes of education, nontechnical skills, and clinical proficiency. Their study included 14 semi-structured interviews and 27 questionnaires with 41 seasoned SEs. The team employed an inductive thematic analysis to spot and analyze patterns describing SEs' perceptions of how their educational work impacted everyday healthcare. The descriptions of their encounters during everyday clinical work were categorized as falling within the themes of education, nontechnical skills, and clinical proficiency. These classifications were refined within the respective subthemes of educational needs, routines/guidelines, and being a resource; communication, feedback, and leadership/coworkership; and situational insight, role model, and confidence in clinical practice. According to the researchers, the themes were demonstrated at the individual, team, and organizational levels via greater confidence and skill.
