NEJM Publishes ABA-ACCME Research on Evolving Board Certification

A recent perspective piece in the New England Journal of Medicine discusses how the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) worked together to enhance the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA) program. The collaboration enabled the ABA to link assessment with continuing medical education opportunities. The article describes the MOCA Minute, a program that allows learners to continuously assess their knowledge. Additionally, ABA worked with ACCME to develop the CME Explorer, a web-based searchable CME catalog of activities that correlate to incorrectly answered MOCA Minute questions. These CME activities may be completed by diplomates for MOCA credit.
