ABMS Releases Updated Guide to Medical Specialties

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has issued its 2019 edition of the ABMS Guide to Medical Specialties. There are presently 40 specialties and 87 subspecialties in which ABMS Members Boards provide certificates. The 2019 update includes descriptions for new subspecialties in Neurocritical Care, Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery, and Complex Family Planning, as well as new infographics on the basic rules physicians must comply with for initial certification and continuing certification. The ABMS Guide has for more than three decades illustrated the value of board certification as a public credential. More than 880,000 U.S. physicians are board-certified by at least one of the 24 ABMS Member Boards.
