Rockpointe Launches Medical Education Program on Amazon's Alexa

Rockpointe has teamed up with AudioEducate to provide a continuing medical education (CME) program for physicians using Amazon's Alexa voice technology platform. Rockpointe President Thomas Sullivan notes that Alexa is featured in Amazon's Echo devices as well as in car dongles, smartphone apps, speakers, tablets, and watches. "You see more people have access to Alexa and it looked to us like a real opportunity to try to put education where people are, compared to something like a webinar where they have to go on their computer," he explains. With research indicating that physicians spend about 50 percent of their working time on computers, accessing CME through such a platform may also be a much-needed change. Sullivan points to the flexibility of the platform in terms of when and where users can access it, noting that "it's not that we don't want them to concentrate, but there are times when they don't want to be on the computer after spending hours to research patient care or on medical records."
