AACN and AONE Join Forces to Advance New Models of Care and Address Nursing Workforce Issues

A new national strategy has been unveiled by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) to strengthen alignment between practice and academia. The newly formed AACN-AONE Advisory Committee will "co-create models of care, workforce readiness, and a lifelong continuum of learning to optimize the impact of nursing on health and wellness." In May, the committee said its priorities include encouraging appropriate leaders to partner with nursing leaders from academia and practice to address anticipated workforce shortages through the use of models of care and models of learning. The committee will also encourage and facilitate academic and practice leaders to identify opportunities and challenges to creating effective partnerships. The committee will also work to advance previous collaborative work conducted by the two nursing organizations, which focused on developing exemplar academic-practice partnerships.
